We bid farewell to the artist and major mail art pioneer Ruggero Maggi, whose work forms part of the MIDECIANT collection and was featured in exhibition projects such as the 1st MIDECIANT Mail Art Open Call in 2020.
Ruggero Maggi was an Italian multimedia artist and curator, born in 1950. His main interests spanned different fields of electrography, including copy art, X-ray art, and laser art, among others. He also worked within the field of chaos art, based on the study of chaos, fractals, and entropy. Maggi was especially renowned as a leading figure in the context of Mail Art. In 1979, he organized the first mail art exhibition in Milan.
His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Chinese History in Beijing and the Museum of Modern Art in Gallarate. He participated in the 49th Venice Biennale with the project Poetic Bunker and in the 1981 São Paulo Art Biennial. Later, in 2007, he served as curator for the 52nd Venice Biennale, presenting his project Camera 312 – Promemoria per Pierre, dedicated to Pierre Restany.
We dedicate this space to remember him and his work.
