Since its creation in 2010, the Ciudad Real Medical School has been firmly committed to scientific research. Its faculty members are integrated in research groups recognized by the UCLM, with a track record of successful and substantial funding at the university, regional, and national levels.
Applications for scientific-technical equipment (FEDER) in the 2013, 2015, and 2018 funding rounds were awarded a combined total of more than 2.1 billion euros. These grants enabled the differed research groups at the Ciudad Real Medical School and University Hospital to acquire equipment for a Scientific-Technical Research Support Unit (UCTAI), which has five different platforms:
- Analytic Techniques platform
- Cellular and Molecular Biology platform (genomics; proteomics; metabolomics; cytomics)
- Microscopy platform (microtomy; microdissection; intracellular injection; transmission, confocal, and electronic microscopy; stereology)
- Animal facilities (behavior lab and experimental operating room)
- Biostatistics and Bioinformatics platform
As well as our Teaching and Research staff, faculty members include our Administrative and Services staff—in particular Technical Staff and Research Staff. In the research field, the Health Sciences doctoral program has trained many PhD candidates. Therefore, the Ciudad Real Medical School has a solid foundation for conducting cutting-edge research, which will only grow in future years.
