Alino José Martínez Marcos

Born in Caudete (Albacete, 1970), Alino Martínez Marcos holds a degree (1993) and a PhD (1998) in Biological Sciences from the University of Valencia (UV). His postdoctoral training was undertaken in the United States (1997-2000) at the Downstate Medical Centre of New York State University, achieving the position of Research Assistant Professor. He was a lecturer in Human Anatomy and Human Embryology at the Albacete Medical School, before moving to be head of the research group in neuroplasticity and neurodegeneration at the new Medical School in Ciudad Real (2010).
His current research interest lies in the neuroanatomical changes in the human brain underlying Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases and in transgenic mice models. He has completed three six-year periods of research, has published more than 85 articles in international journals and his h-index is 30.
He has been the principal investigator in five national projects, eight regional projects and seven projects under the national program for scientific and technological infrastructures. He has supervised five theses and has acted as a reviewer for more than fifty journals and as an evaluator for more than ten research agencies in various countries. In 2005, he was the winner of the Luisa Sigea de Velasco Young Researcher Prize awarded by the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha (2005).
He has been a full professor of Anatomy and Human Embryology since 2016, having completed four five-year periods of teaching and participated in five teaching research projects. He has been the academic secretary (2010-2013), vice-dean (2013-2017) and dean (2017-2020) of the Medical School in Ciudad Real.
